A finger presses the lit button on top of the Levolift opener as it sits on a jar lid. Text: The jar opener that grips for you. Press to grip securely.

Why jars are hard

It does the gripping.

A sealed lid needs a hard squeeze before it needs a turn. The vacuum inside holds it down, and your hand has to clamp tight enough that the lid can't slip before it will move at all.

That squeeze is the part that hurts. Levolift closes three claws around the lid and holds it for you, so all that is left is one easy turn of a long handle.

How it works in four steps: set it over the lid, press to grip the lid, turn the long handle, lift the lid off whole.

How it works

Three moves. One open jar.

Set it over the lid. It sits flat on top of the jar. Nothing to line up, nothing to adjust.

Press to grip. Three claws close around the rim and hold it, tighter than fingers can and without slipping. That is the part that takes strength, and it is done for you.

Turn the long handle. The handle is long on purpose: the further your hand sits from the centre of the lid, the less force the turn takes. One hand steadies the jar, the other turns.

The lid comes off whole, so it screws right back on. And there is a bottle opener built into the end of the handle.

Before and after: a woman struggles to twist open a jar by hand, then turns the Levolift handle while steadying the jar. Text: Say goodbye to stubborn jar lids.

What changes

No more waiting for someone to come over.

Hot water. A dish towel. A butter knife against the rim. Banging it on the counter and hoping the glass holds. Then, eventually, calling someone.

Everyone has a system for the jar that won't open, and none of them works every time. Levolift is for the jars you have started avoiding.

Most openers look like they came from a hospital supply catalog.

They work. They also announce something about the person using them, every time they come out. Levolift is matte black with one lit button. It looks like a kitchen tool, so it stays out on the counter and gets used.

A man turns the Levolift handle on a jar of pickles while steadying the jar. Text: Perfect opener for stubborn lids. Grips the lid so your fingers don't have to squeeze.

The hard ones

Built for stubborn lids.

The claws grip where fingers slip, and the long handle gives you the leverage. The turn becomes a steady push instead of a hard twist.

It works best on metal screw-top lids: pasta sauce, pickles, salsa, jam. Smooth plastic caps can slip. We'd rather say that here than have you find out on your counter.

Usually bought by someone else.

A son, a daughter, a husband. The person who needs it tends not to ask. Keep One, Give One is two openers for $99: one for them, one for whoever you were going to buy for next.

Try it on the jars in your own kitchen.
